Sniffer algorithm leads robots to faint

Although having the boys in blue tracking you down based on your unique aroma fingerprints might seem frightening, just envision the terror that would ensue if an ultra-keen robot was onto your trail from miles away. Massimo Vergassola and and colleagues at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France, have created an algorithm that can actually instruct a robot “how to move in order to gather as much olfactory information as possible.” The mathematical formula allows a machine to home in on “even the faintest of scents” by analyzing which direction the smell is getting weaker or stronger in, the frequency of the whiffs, and eventually, it could even take into account disturbances such as wind gusts. After trialing the algorithm on computer-based robotic models searching for a scent, he found that the theoretical guinea pigs moved in “S-like patterns” to sniff things out, which is quite similar to the method used by moths (renowned for their sense of smell) when trying to discover the source of an odor.

Orkut has again landed in a mess after a Delhi court ordered an investigation into the social networking site by the Delhi police over a complaint by an air hostess whose obscene profile was allegedly posted on the site by some unidentified net user.

So, now please try to secure your info on orkut. Don’t upload pics and don’t put your emails,phone numbers. Some people can abuse it and it can be harmful to you. This shows us that we shouldn’t use such open communities for our talk.

What is Spring Framework for java?

Spring is a Light weight Open Source Framework for java which uses POJO (Plain Old Java Objects).

It can be used for any kind of application,services etc.
Its better then EJB as it takes less resources.

So when you think that EJB is not properly utilized for your bussiness logic or its too heavy and you can do it with some other things then you can give a try to Spring.No need to use its classes. you can use any of you class in spring.

i am new to spring but using it since last 3 to 5 months. What i got through it is..

-Easy to configure through the xml file.
-Easy to use. You can use any class with spring. You just need to define it as a bean in the xml context of the spring.
-Main thing – IoC (Inversion Of control) means “To give the inputs”. We can load the class through the xml and can pass input params in constuctors or property setter methods.
-And the best thing is – database Transactions and SPs. we just need to make seperate class for SP and Spring will handle all the things related to opening,closing connections,handling synchronization etc. we just need to declare SP, its parameters and resultsets.And you are done!
-very simple to implment.Basically i have only used it for JDBC conections.I made Interfaces and then DAO class implements it accordingly.Then just define the DAO class in xml file as a bean. You can take it as a target element of ‘TransactionProxyFactoryBean’ provided by Spring framework.

i will write more on this when updated myself.

Dealzmodo: $13 1GB MP3 Player

Technically this deal isn’t only good today, but it still earns the Dealzmodo moniker. The Yoto B100 is a barebones USB 2.0 MP3 player that will only run you $13 if you are willing to do a bit of translation. No confusing rebates or discounts, just good old renminbi to dollar conversion.
But I don’t know…I prefer my Chinese OEM gadgets to have that “if it were made in America we’d be sued by now” vibe.

LG’s BH100 Super Multi Player

Well this is more like it. After waiting forever between the initial announcement and first retail availability of the first wave of HD disc devices, LG’s BH100 really rocketed to the shelves, and has just participated in its first unboxing (that we’ve heard of) mere weeks after the announcement at CES. We’re a little disconcerted by that big front-and-center dent on the box, but the unit itself looks just dandy, and gadgetaholic promises a full review in the coming days. But that’s not what you’re here for, you just wanted to see this little guy ripped from his Styrofoam cocoon and flap his little Red and Blue wings, so hit the read link for the whole event. JVC launches 5 Everio HDD camcorders and PC-less DVD writer

First caught wind of JVC’s new line-up of Everios at CES. However, in the product onslaught to come, we somehow overlooked their new line-up of hard disk drive-based video cameras and accessories hitting Japan in February and destined for the US shores and beyond. So taking a step back, we bring you five new Everios: the GZ-MG575 (pictured) , GZ-MG555, GZ-MG275, GZ-MG255, and GZ-MG155. All five models pack a single CCD as opposed to the trio of sensors found in their MG505 and GZ-HD7 hi-def cam. That cut in quality comes at a discounted price though. The 40GB MG575 (¥140,000 / $1,155) and 30GB MG555 (¥130,000 / $1,072) both feature a 5.37 megapixel CCD (for 4 megapixel videos or 5 megapixel stills), 10x optical zoom lens, 2.7-inch LCD, and built-in LED light. The 40GB MG275 (¥120,000 / $990) and 30GB MG255 (¥110,000 / $907) take things down a notch with a 2.18 megapixel CCD (for 1.23 megapixel videos or 2 megapixel stills) and 10x optical zoom. Bringing up the rear is the 30GB MG155 which costs ¥90,000 (about $742) and touts a wee 1.07 megapixel CCD and monster 32x optical zoom. All models bring SD card support and a direct-to-DVD button for PC-less writing to DVDs when connected over USB to the optional ¥25,000 (about $206) CU-VD20 DVD accessory. Sharp unveils 8.28-megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD sensor

Although Sharp has already busted out 10- and 12-megapixel sensors for ultracompacts, the firm is toning it down a bit and making things even more compact with its latest 8.28-megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD rendition. The company achieved the resolution “using the 1.75 μm x 1.75 μm pixel cell, which is claimed as is the industry’s smallest class,” and comes in at 60-percent of the volume of Sharp’s previous model. Presumably hoping to cram these things into wafer-thin cameras of the future, it plans to start shipping the 10- x 10- x 3.5-millimeter sample packages later next week, while volume production of the ¥4,000 ($33) sensors are scheduled for April.

Blu-ray cracked ?

It’s still early on to tell whether this is actually true, but HD DVD cracker muslix64 is back, and with the help of another anti-DRM cracker, Janvitos, claims to have also broken the Blu-ray’s implementation of AACS. Although their protection does not yet account for BD+ copy-protection, they claim to have been able to implement the same key-grabbing known-plaintext attack as muslix64 used to crack HD DVD in order to successfully to crack Blu-ray without even using a disc or drive (apparently they just used a raw encrypted data file and nothing more). Unfortunately they haven’t yet posted code for us to test this out, so we’ll have to take their word for it for the time being.

Bang & Olufsen intros BeoLab 9 loudspeakers

Per usual, Bang & Olufsen is out crafting home theater components that only a select few can afford, yet just about everyone can appreciate. The BeoLab 9 loudspeakers are no different, as they sport a unique conically-shaped cabinet that house the five-inch mid-range and ten-inch bass drivers, and the tweeter gets perched atop the unit ready to spread those highs “in an arc of 180 degrees.” These towers also feature the firm’s Acoustic Lens Technology, which supposedly “guarantees uniform sound characteristics in front of the speaker, letting the listener hear constant timbre even when moving around or sitting in different places.” While we’re not too confident on blasting these guys without a subwoofer somewhere in the loop, they do manage to tout the company’s “Adaptive Bass Linearisation technology” to prevent distortion, and can reportedly reach down to 30Hz all by their lonesome. Of course, for the presumably lofty price these things will demand, you also get a paint job of your choice, as the towers come in red, blue, dark grey, and black. No word on when these should grace showroom floors, nor how many arms / legs you’ll need to liquidate before even thinking about ‘em, but the BeoLab 9 should be impressing deep-pocketed listeners real soon. OrigenAE cranks out 1080p LCD-equipped HTPC chassis

HTPC enclosures with front-mounted LCD screens certainly aren’t new, with firms such as VoodooPC and Okoro Media Systems (just to name a couple) have been pumpin’ them out for quite some time, but OrigenAE’s take on the LCD-equipped chassis involves quite a bit more distinction than the other ho hum attempts. The S21T is practically one-piece aluminum (black or silver) case that just oozes sleekness, and would probably become the instant standout in any AV rack. Gracing the front is a recessed 12.1-inch motorized LCD that touts an (admittedly tough on the eyes) 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, and just might beat out the actual TV sets this beast will end up connected to. Regardless, the enclosure also features a host of internal fans, matching optical drive bezel, removable motherboard tray, support for 10 internal hard drives, and a bevy of ports including USB 2.0, FireWire, audio in / out, and multi-card flash reader. Of course, it doesn’t really matter how sensational the innards of this thing are, just click on through for a few more snapshots and see how great it looks completely empty.

Suzuki Flix concept combines home theater and car – amzing…

With an illegal seating configuration and that weird hump up top, we’re fairly confident this Suzuki Flix concept car that was recently shown at the Detroit Auto Show won’t be parked in your driveway anytime soon, but it’s fun to look at all the same. Just like its SXBox cousin, the Suzuki Flix crams excessive entertainment hardware into an almost-believable vehicle configuration, but we’re not positive the Flix quite pulls it off. That viewing angle through the pop-open roof looks crazy awkward, and the projector-housing hump kind of ruins the whole “theater in disguise” thing Suzuki has going on. Still, we’re not going to deny the movie geek cred here, and those chairs look pretty tight, no matter what the DOT might think.

Google Antiphishing Site Exposes Private User Data

Google has removed a few user names and passwords posted inadvertently to a phishing blacklist it compiles and makes publicly available on the Web. The Mountain View, California-based company said it has also implemented a mechanism that detects and prevents a URL submission that contains login data from being available publically. The loophole was discovered in early January and Google announced Monday that the problem had been solved.
